MBABANE – The national team, Sihlangu, are off to a dream start in the 2022 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup.

Three goals by Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Lindo Mkhonta and Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba were enough to hand the Dominic Kunene-led side the maximum points in style and this was the biggest win in the tournament since the 4-0 over Seychelles back in 2016. This was the first match in group B of the COSAFA Cup, as Malawi was to play Lesotho later on the day. The winner in the group will play Senegal in the quarterfinals. Sihlangu face Malawi in their second match tomorrow with the last game against Lesotho on Sunday. All the games will be played at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, South Africa.

The last time the two sides clashed was in the 2019 edition and the match ended with a 2-all draw. The game started on a high with Sihlangu enjoying more possession and creating chances. They were awarded a penalty in the eighth minute when Mauritius’ David Aristide handled the ball inside the 18 area and Captain Mkhonta sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 1-0. The match went for the break with Sihlangu enjoying a slender 1-nil lead. In the second half, Mauritius dominated the match but wasted scoring opportunities. It was the brilliant performance by Royal Leopard’s Sifiso Matse that saw Sihlangu scoring the second goal. Matse provided a succulent pass to the left wing that was met by Young Buffaloes’ Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba whose first touch was classic and he buried the ball into the net with a hard shot that the goalkeeper had no chance of saving.

Coach Dominic Kunene’s men were in command of the match in the last 10 minutes and the gaffer rested the duo of Order and Philani Mkhontfo for Neliso Dlamini and Bongwa Matsebula. With five minutes remaining, Sifiso Matse against proved his class with ‘grass-cutter’ pass to marksman Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa which led him face-to-face with the goalkeeper and showed his quality with a great  ground shot finish to hand Eswatini the convincing win.
