QATAR RUNNER IN 172ND PARKRUN

MBABANE – The Mbabane parkrun had visitors from as far as Qatar.

There weekly 5km timed run had four visitors namely Tracey Stewart, Amy Stewart. The latter is living in Qatar. There was also Niaz Moosa from North Beach parkrun. The line-up also featured new local runner Sisekelo S Magagula. Moosa joined from North Beach parkrun in Durban. Niaz has conquered 200 parkruns. These are the North Beach parkrun (197); Rose parkrun (1); Bridgetown parkrun (1) and Durban Point parkrun (1). Niaz has seven volunteer credits. Amy from Qatar completed her first parkrun on Saturday. She is originally from Eswatini but is currently living and working in Qatar.

Parkrun organiser Neil Robinson welcomed the visitors. “Welcome to the global parkrun family and we look forward to welcoming you back to our course,” said Robinson. He also encouraged runners to improve their time so that they could beat their personal best. He also thanked volunteers who braved the cold and came out to assist in organising an awesome event.
Some of the volunteers were Devin Bauermeister, Erik Bauermeister, Karen Cooper, Lean Drinkwater, Gohe Gebremariam, Bonginkosi ‘Mafry’ Madonsela, Nonhlanhla Makhanya, Katherine Moir, Noreen Moir, Chris Morgan, Kirsten Robinson, Neil Robinson, Ntsikelelo Shabangu and Ababu Tiruneh. The parkrun had 64 parkrunners and this was made up of 17 ladies; 33 men and 14 unknowns (unregistered parkrunners). “If you need assistance registering, please visit either Apollo Printers or International Tool Hire in Mbabane and the team will assist you with your registration,” he said.
