‘SIKHALI’, ALL OUR PLAYERS UNTOUCHABLE - ALLY

MBABANE – “Even if the whole team was out of contracts, I would not worry one bit because our players know where they belong.”

This was the reaction of Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe when questioned about some key players’ contracts running out as of this month-end.
The season came to an end as of last Sunday and there will be player movement ahead of the next season, which is expected to open with a knockout tournament yet to be confirmed by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) as things revert to normal for sports.

Highlanders’ Captain Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who had signed two years since last season, is one of those affected in the club among several other regular names. There is speculation that ‘Sikhali’s former team, Mbabane Swallows, were having an ambition to win back the forward, who was rescued from the brink of an end to his glittering career by Kgomongwe. He saved him from a two-year suspension that threatened to keep him out of football, but Kgomongwe followed the issue with the South African Football Association (SAFA) and found the damage was only as far as in South African football. “I’m not new to expiring contracts issue. ‘Sikhali’ is my player and he belongs to Mbabane Highlanders. All our players are happy to be with us and none of them has indicated he wants to leave us. They can sit without contracts and all of them but when the time comes, they will get new contracts because this is home for them.

“Even last time there were reports of about 10 to 12 of our players out of contracts, but they came to Pretoria and everyone put pen to paper. The same will happen even this time and we don’t have much time to break as we must start preparing for the African journey,” Kgomongwe responded when questioned if he was concerned about the possibility of losing some of his best players.

He said he already knew two to three players who were linked with their traditional rivals, Swallows but said none of them would be crossing the Rubicon. He also said instead of outgoings, players would be interested in joining them as they looked to strengthen even more ahead of the TOTALEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2022/23 games and new season.
Highlanders finished the season as runners-up to police outfit Royal Leopard on a two-point difference, the last game being a goalless draw with Swallows.
