MBABANE – The countdown to the big derby has begun!

This epic clash between capital city giants and sworn rivals in Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows has a lot at stake. It is a winner-takes-all as the three points come with a ticket to the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup on top of bragging rights. Mbabane Highlanders won the first round match against their sworn rivals by 1-0 in the evening of January 23, 2022 at the Mavuso Sports Centre. The ‘Black Bull’ were steered to victory by Sihlangu’s lethal striker, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who scored via a penalty kick. ‘Inkunzi emnyama’s self-proclaimed number one supporter Sizwe ‘Mpapane’ Ndlovu said they would continue where they left off in the first round and beat ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’. “What I can say is that our supporters should dust their passports and those without them should make means to get one, as the journey to Africa will be confirmed on Sunday,” Ndlovu said.

He said they would be not concerned about the other game between Royal Leopard and Young Buffaloes.  If the latter beat Leopard, Highlanders will be champions with a  rare double over Swallows. “The quartet of Khanyakwezwe, Sikhali, ‘Ben 10’ and Phila will bring joy to the Mbabane Highlanders supporters come Sunday. Gwaza Nkunzi!” Ndlovu said. Meanwhile,  ‘Umkhonto Ka-Shaka’s  staunch supporter Lunga Magagula said  it was payback time, as Highlanders beat them in the first round. “It is now our time; we will beat Highlanders 1-0 come Sunday to achieve our dream of playing in Africa again,” Magagula said. He said they respected their rivals, but they did not fear them and he promised that it would be a very entertaining game of football. “I will castrate the bull with the trio of Samba Jive, ‘TT’ and Felix,” he said.

He then invited football lovers to cascade to the Mavuso Sports Centre to cheer their respective teams and urged them to accept the results. The clash between the arch-rivals of Mbabane will be played on Sunday and it’s the battle for the second position, which carries a ticket to Africa. On the other hand, Mbabane Highlanders are still in the race for the coveted title.
