ZAKHELE, NHLANHLA, GIDEON TO BATTLE IT OUT FOR EOCGA VICE-PRESIDENCY

MBABANE – It will be a battle of the titans for the vacant Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) vice-presidency post.

The post was left vacant by the now EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele. A source close to the matter confirmed that the three candidates, who will battle it out for the position, are Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini, Eswatini Basketball Association (EBA) President Nhlanhla Maphanga and former AE and President Gideon Mthembu. EOCGA will host its annual general meeting (AGM) month end and that is where the elections will be held. Jele, when reached for comment yesterday, said they were due to call a press conference where they would issue statement over the elections and other issues.

AE President Zakhele Dlamini confirmed that the would be standing for the elections. “Yes, it is true I am part of the nominees and I will stand for the elections. I’m ready to serve, add value and also learn,” he said. Gideon Mthembu also confirmed that he was part of the nominees and he will be standing for the elections. “I am qualified for the post and I believe my experience can come in handy when planning for the future,” he said. Eswatini Basketball Association (EBA) President Nhlanhla Maphanga is the current acting vice-president and he confirmed yesterday that he would stand for the elections.
