MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe has acquired the status of ABC Motsepe League Gauteng Stream A outfit, Vaal Professional for a sum of E1.2 million.

Vaal Professional FC, currently trading as FC Resa, is campaigning under the Gauteng Stream A ABC Motsepe League where they are currently languishing on ninth position having lost five of the six games they played this season so far. In Kgomongwe’s first match as owner, the former Premier Soccer League (PSL) side beat log leaders Tembisa Classic 2-1. They face Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Wits University in the next match this weekend.

deal

According to a post on Mabaleng Sports Centre’s Facebook page, the deal between Vaal Professional and Kgomongwe has been concluded. “I can confirm that Ally’s Tigers bought RESA status, the owner, Chief Ally, applauded the sweet relationship he had with the North West Administration for all the years they had been members in good standing with the province. As for the sweet relationship, I can adhere to that as I have worked with Chief, what a humble, straight forward chairperson,” read the posts by one Sello Cleo Ramabya. Kgomongwe, in an interview yesterday, confirmed he had acquired the status of the Gauteng Stream A outfit for a sum of E1.2 million.

“Yes, it’s true I have bought the status of Vaal Professional but they have not changed the name of the club because you cannot do that in the middle of the season. I have sold the Ally Tiger’s status to people from KZN. The reason I want to play under the Gauteng Stream A is because it is expensive to play under the North-West stream yet the team is based in Gauteng,” Kgomongwe said.

travel

He said at times his team, Ally Tiger’s had to travel as much as 900 kilometres to honour a league match. “I had to consider a lot of factors but again, i want to revive the brand of Vaal Professional who have a rich history in South African football and have a lot of followers. I am glad that on my first game as the new owner, we beat the log leaders and won the first game of the season,” Kgomongwe added.

reviving

Asked on whether his involvement in reviving the former PSL side won’t affect his attention at Mbabane Highlanders, Kgomongwe said there were issues at Highlanders that need to be cleared with regards to the directorship structure. “My lawyers are dealing with those issues, otherwise, here I foresee better chances of being promoted to the NFD. We are playing Wits University in the next game, we are going to hammer them,” he said.
