MBABANE – Women’s football teams are expected to complete their COVID-19 tests on Saturday.

This directive was announced by Eswatini Women’s Football Association’s (EWFA) Acting Communications Officer Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela ahead of the women’s football league kick-off projected for November 6, 2021. Mavimbela said only players and officials who produced valid COVID-19 clearance certificated would be allowed into playing venues in adherence to the COVID-19 rules and regulations. “Teams located within the Mbabane- Manzini corridor will converge at the Manzini Regional Police Headquarters. Those in the Shiseleweni Region will test at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium while Illovo and Callies Happy Girls will go to Mayaluka Stadium and Buhleni respectively. We request all teams to complete their tests on Saturday,” Mavimbela said.

Chairman of the Competitions Committee Lucky Dube said the Women’s Football League 2021/2022 was returning amid the COVID-19 era and it was imperative for the teams to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulation of the game in order to avoid being penalised. He urged all teams’ compliance officers to ensure that the COVID-19 rules and regulations are adhered during training and during the course of the league.

The duties of the competitions committee, as prescribed in Article 49 of the EWFA Statutes 2021, is to enforce the rules and regulations of the league, fixture clubs in compliance with the EWFA calendar and establish procedures of the latter. “I would request all the teams to honor the fixtures and observe time to ensure a smooth progress of the league. ‘‘It’s unfortunate that women’s football returns at a challenging time of COVID-19. ‘‘Fortunately compliance officers were trained on how to ensure safety and it is their responsibility to ensure that the rules and regulations are adhered to,” Dube said.
