MBABANE – The Eswatini Women’s Football League 2021/2022 season kick-off has been shifted to the first weekend of November.

This was the latest update shared by Eswatini Women Football Association’s Acting Communications Officer Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela. The league had been inactive since last March when sports were banned due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The 2021/22 season kick-off was postponed to start next Saturday to November 6, 2021.

Mavimbela said the change of schedule was consequential to the political unrest and protests witnessed in the past week. He said due to the public transport operators’ strike, the teams’ COVID-19 testing had to be shifted to next week Saturday. “We have postponed everything by one week. The league will now start on November 6 and teams will get tested next Saturday. The confirmation of transport for the teams was confirmed late so we had to reschedule,” he explained.
According to the first round fixtures, it will be Young Buffaloes and Mbabane Swallows  in the opening match, while last season’s champions, Manzini Wanderers will open their campaign with a clash against one of the strongest teams, Elangeni Ladies. Royal Leopard have a date with Southern Divas, whileTambankulu Callies will face off with Green Mamba Ladies.

“The venues will be announced in due course and we will ensure that all teams comply with the COVID-19 rules and regulations. Teams must continue training,” Mavimbela said. For convenience purposes, teams would have their COVID-19 test sessions in locations closer to their residences.
