2ND GOLD MEDAL FOR SANELISO

MBABANE – He is dominating the Mozambique taekwondo fraternity.

That is Saneliso Masuku, who has made it two times in a row, winning gold medals and being crowned the best player in Mozambican tournaments. The First Dan Black Belt holder defeated an opponent on Saturday. The first gold medal came in July when he was also crowned the best player. Masuku is currently based in Mozambique and he is competing in tournaments such as taekwondo and was permitted to play in that country this year after a year-long shutdown. Masuku was competing in the Under 68kg category.

“I’m happy with my performance here in Mozambique. I am now currently based here and I am taking part in their tournaments where I register as an individual in representing the country. I’m happy that since I started competing I have been victorious in both tournaments and took home the best player award,” he said.
Masuku was selected as part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games tentative squad in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, taekwondo was dropped from Team Eswatini. He graduated to the First Dan Black belt in 2017, but since then there has been no grading sessions. He plays for Correctional Services Taekwondo team in the country.

He said he would continue to work hard and he believed that things would go back to normality after the COVID-19 pandemic. Masuku said artists in the country had been unlucky as they have been out of action since March 2020 when sports were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said now it was up to an individual to make sure that they kept working hard and believe that things would go back to normal. Taekwondo was not among the sporting codes that were given permission to continue playing even in government’s relaxed lockdown restriction announced last Saturday. The only allowed sports include golf, tennis, athletics, darts, cricket, shooting, teqball, gymnastics and angling among others.
