MALAWI BEATS ESWATINI BY 8 WICKETS

MBABANE – The going is getting tougher.

Eswatini senior men’s cricket team were not so lucky yesterday when they lost by eight wickets to Malawi. This was their second match in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Su Regional Africa Qualifiers being played in Rwanda. Malawi made a comeback at the expense of the local team after losing by 10 wickets to Uganda in their opening match.

Fresh from sinking neighbours, Lesotho by 52 runs on Saturday, Eswatini had a tough challenge against Malawi. The latter won the toss and chose to field. Eswatini’s batsmen were all out in 18.2 overs, with the first wicket falling in 2.4 overs. Eswatini’s batting innings started well with Christiaan Forbes on 20 runs of 13 balls and Mohammed Amin (seven runs of 11 balls).

Their successors continued with the momentum as Captain Naeem Gull had 20 runs of 18 balls and Juber Ghadiyali on 22 runs of 22 balls. Malawi registered 99/2 in 12.4/20 overs while Eswatini had 97 runs in 18.2/20 overs. Eswatini is the lowest ranked country in the MRF Tyres ICC Mens’ T20 team rankings, sitting in position 82 below Lesotho, while Malawi is in number 53.

Eswatini has four games remaining in the preliminary stage, where in Group A, they are competing for the top spot against Seychelles, Malawi, Rwanda, Malawi, Lesotho, Uganda and Ghana. They will face Uganda tomorrow at 1:50am. The local team will have a double fixture the next day where they take on Ghana and Seychelles. Their final fixture pits them against the hosts, Rwanda on Thursday.
