2021/22 MTN PREMIER LEAGUE KICK-OFF SATURDAY

MBABANE – The 2021/ 22 MTN Premier League will go underway this weekend.

Champions Royal Leopard will kick-off the season against rivals Mbabane Swallows in one of the exciting grand opening fixtures. Another highly anticipated match is between army side Young Buffaloes and Mbabane Highlanders. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati said they would release the fixtures with venues today after it had been approved by the executive. He said preparations for the league’s kick-off were almost done.

Just like last season, the games will kick-off behind closed doors, with no fans allowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic regulations as pronounced by Eswatini Government and World Health Organisation (WHO). Vilakati said they would stick to government’s resolution that let the games begin without the fans. Government has made a promise to football that at least if the vaccinated population my reach at least 70 per cent of the country’s population; they will then consider allowing fans back into stadiums. The league is expected to kick-off together with the MTN National First Division that will comprise 14 teams after the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) announced last Wednesday that there wouldn’t be any relegation.

“The preparations are almost done and we will be releasing the fixtures with venues once the executive approves it. We are also waiting for the rules and regulations from the football mother boy and they will be released as soon as possible to the teams,” he said.
