MBABANE – Scouting for greener pastures.

Moneni Pirates players in Sihle Mkhonta, Mbongeni Magagula and Lizwe Zwane were reportedly spotted among Mbabane Highlanders players who travelled to South Africa to play friendly matches in the past weekend. Highlanders played Ally Tigers on Saturday and Sunday and were expected to return home yesterday afternoon. Impeccable sources close to the matter revealed that the players, who had reportedly missed three weeks pre-season training at the ‘Buccaneer’ of Moneni’ s home, were searching for a new home in the ‘Bull’s kraal.

Quizzed on the matter, Mbabane Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mandla Madonsela confirmed that the team also comprised of players who were eager to join Mbabane Highlanders. He, however, declined to comment on the Pirates players while awaiting a final list of the team to be announced later this week. “It is true that some players from other teams came to seek employment with Mbabane Highlanders. I don’t know about the three Pirates players you are referring to. You can get the full list of players through a press statement after their arrival from South Africa,” Madonsela said. Drawn for comment, Moneni Pirates Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Public Relations Officer Mlungisi ‘Puma’ Simelane confirmed that the players were not part of the team but negotiations were underway to get them back.

Contract

He highlighted that Magagula and Zwane were still contracted with Pirates as they signed a three-year contract elapsing next season except for Mkhonta. “They are currently not with the team but we are still negotiating with them because we would like to have them next season. I can’t know their whereabouts but you know football is a business and teams put new offers every season,” Simelane said. He said it was the players’ rights to welcome better offers, which is typical of any business including the football industry.
