MBABANE – Young Buffaloes striker Phiwayinkhosi ‘Slwabelwabe’ Dlamini’s scoring prowess has earned him a spot in the country’s history books.

He had met the long-standing top goalscorer record of 19 goals per season in the league that was set by Cameroonian striker Etienneh Massoye in his first season with Mbabane Swallows back in 2008/09. Dlamini scored his 19th goal of the season on Saturday in the 1-all draw against MTN Premier League leaders Royal Leopard at KaLanga Technical Centre. Dlamini scored from a spot-kick. He is now leading with three goals away from Mbabane Highlanders forward Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who has not found the back of the net in the past three games. Ndzinisa is second on the list with 16 goals for the season.

Massoye, a striker back then, before joining Swallows’ technical bench, which he serves currently, went on to win the goals’ award for the second consecutive time the next season, netting 18 goals in 2009/10, a record that has so far also been met by Phiwa Dlamini. Green Mamba striker Musa Dlamini once scored 16 goals in the 2010/ 11 season and since then there is no player other than the duo of Massoye and Dlamini to have scored more than 18 goals in one season. Dlamini was also the top goalscorer for the first round he took home E6 000 while he is set to pocket the E12 000 for the season scorer. Phiwa could not be reached for comment yesterday as his mobile phone rang answered.
