MBABANE – The football fraternity has yet again lost an official.

Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows are mourning the passing away of their Finance Director in Charles Matambo. Matambo died while jogging in Pigg’s Peak on Sunday morning. He was appointed when Black Swallows announced its Management Committee last year in October. Matambo’s death comes a week after the demise of another Pigg’s Peak based-side official, Malanti Chiefs Dumisani Shongwe, who was laid to rest on Sunday at Motshane. Shongwe died at the Killarney Sports Ground on June 12 during an MTN Premier League match.

Matambo passed away at the time when he was assisting the team with its finance as part of the Confederations of African Football (CAF) club licensing programme processes. Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vusi Thomo confirmed the sad new yesterday. He said they learn with shock about the demise of Matambo. “It is with great grief that we received the sad news of the demise of our Finance Manager Mr Christopher Matambo. This is actually a monumental loss not only to Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows but also the whole sporting fraternity,” he said.

Thomo said Matambo would always be remembered as one of the best football administrators, as his contribution to Black Swallows would be cherished forever. “In the same vein, he was not only our finance manager but ensured that all tenants of corporate governance in the strict sense were upheld. His leadership qualities as well as his amiable character easily endeared him to all of us. May God grant his soul eternal peace and comfort his family, friends and all supporters and players of Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows. Black Swallows Chairman Charles Matsebula confirmed the sad news and he said they were on their way to the family to pass on their condolences.
