NHLANGANO – Wing wizard Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko rolled back the years with a fine performance as Mbabane Swallows beat Moneni Pirates 2-0 here yesterday.

At the ripe age of 40 years, with a career spanning over 20 years, the former Sihlangu winger scored a wondrous free kick five minutes after the hour-mark and then set up the second goal, headed in by left full back Sanele Mkhweli as the Swallows of Mbabane closed the gap on log leaders to just seven points still with a game in hand. The game in hand is the abandoned clash against the self-same Moneni Pirates, whose fate would be known tonight when the Disciplinary Committee deliberates on the issue. By midnight, Swallows could well be four points behind Buffaloes, who lost 0-1 to Manzini Wanderers yesterday, if the DC transfers the three points and three goals into their account.

Talented

The talented Nhleko, who began his career with Gege Happy Stars in the late 1990’s, before joining Denver Sundowns, let fly a swerving free kick from 25 yards which beat Pirates goalkeeper Ncedo Mamba hands down.
The free kick was awarded after Pirates skipper Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane has brought a marauding Sizolwethu Shabalala 25 yards out. Swallows continued to press to hard for another goal as ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko tuned on the magic and indeed five minutes from time his gift-wrapped cross on the right flank was finished off with the coolness of a cucumber by left full back Mkhweli, who scored his first goal of the season after rejoining the ‘Beautiful Birds’ from his childhood club, Manzini Wanderers. Swallows remain third on the log standings and interestingly, face the log leaders, Young Buffaloes at the self-same King Sobhuza Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 3:00pm in the ‘pick of the weekend’ fixtures.
