E200 000 FOR ESWATINIBANK CUP QUARTER-FINALISTS

MBABANE – After what seemed like an eternity, finally itodlala kamnandzi  for the EswatiniBank Cup quarter-finalists of the 2020 edition.

The tripartite of EswatiniBank, Eswatini Football Association (EFA) and Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has finally reached a decision to hand over a sum of E200 000 to be shared equally as prizes by the eight teams who were remaining in the tournament before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means each team stands to receive E25 000. The decision to conclude the tournament at its quarter-final stage also applied to Senior Women’s Cup and the Under-20 category as well.

The prizes, which include individual prizes, will be handed out to the winners this Friday. In the mainstream tournament, the eight teams to receive the E25 000 each are namely, Green Mamba, Mbabane Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders, Madlenya, Tambuti, Young Buffaloes, Moneni Pirates and Malanti Chiefs. The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Frederick Mngomezulu confirmed that a decision to hand out prizes based on the stages where the tournament was ended, which is the quarter-finals, has been taken.

“The prizes are to be accorded to the assorted participants, in terms of their performance up to the quarter-final stage, a process which is considered to have been completed by Friday 26, February, 20201,” he said. He added: “The EFA would like to take this opportunity to exclusively thank EswatiniBank as a sponsor of the edition and Cup, for their alliance in trying to resolve the conclusion of the competition and hereby in the same wavelength, continues to greatly appreciate the continued collaboration, understanding and resolution exhibited by the EFA members in collaboration with her sponsors and the general football community, amid the persistent challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Mngomezulu then urged the EFA members and the football family, as a whole, to continue complying with the laid interventions prescribed by the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini and competent health authorities, nationally and internationally, as a conquest strategy against COVID-19 health threat is sought as football looks forward to return to its much-revered passion.

The EswatiniBank Cup 2019/2020 edition became the second competition to have its prizes handed out in a similar fashion after 71 per cent of the MTN league had to be dished out following the cancellation of the league competition with eight games remaining.
