MBABANE – He was officially registered and cleared to play hours before his new team Chippa United faced Bloemfontein Celtic yesterday afternoon.

It was an away match for the ‘Chilli Boys’ as Chippa United are famously known, who just re-signed midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni from Mbabane Highlanders for an undisclosed fee. Sangweni had only played two MTN Premier League matches against Royal Leopard and Tambankulu Callies for the capital city giants before this move.

“Sangweni was officially registered yesterday (Friday) to be available for selection in their game today (yesterday),” an impeccable source confirmed.

Highlanders’ Secretary Simiso ‘Space’ Jele also affirmed the registration of Sangweni as he personally was called to assist in as far as the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) was concerned.

“He was given jersey 12 but I can’t be sure if they’ll play him against Celtic,” Jele said when reached yesterday.

Meanwhile, the talented former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates midfielder, who also donned the Bafana Bafana shirt, came on as a substitute for Mduduzi Sibeko five minutes to recess.

The match ended in a 1-all stalemate with Celtics taking the lead 11 minutes into the game courtesy of a Victor Letsoalo strike from the spot. Sangweni’s Chippa levelled matters in the 73rd minute through the boot of Bienvenu Eva Nga.

Celtics suffered a blow when Mbhazima Rikhatso was shown marching orders by the referee a minute before half time at the DStv Premiership fixture at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
