MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders’ boss Chief Ally Kgomongwe feels letting former Eswatini international Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndiznisa’s career end after the Mbombela United setback would have been a big mistake.

The Highlanders player was implicated by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in a double registration scandal leading to his former team, Mbombela, docked 23 points to be relegated and handed a two-year ban in football.

Kgomongwe said if people followed the track-record of the player’s career among others, even when he was with South Africa’s GladAfrica Championship relegated side Mbombela United, they would have discovered he is undoubtedly a great player.

“He is a cream and you can’t let the career of a player of Sikhali’s calibre easily get destroyed. If you let a player of his quality to have his career ended abruptly or hang his boots, it tells me that as a person, you do not know football,” said Kgomongwe.

He added that Sikhali was among the players who played and won against the defunct Platinum Stars and delivered silverware for the country.

“If you promote a good player, you are indirectly promoting the country.”

Kgomongwe also highlighted that he considered himself a father figure to his players and expected the same treatment from them.

“I think it is totally unfair even for the whole country to lose a quality player such as Sikhali or let his career get destroyed,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the issue of Physical Trainer and Assistant coach Siyabonga Bhembe, who also used to be with Swallows before joining Mbombela, Kgomongwe said most people forgot that these people had lives outside football and they (Kgomongwe and Bhembe) had a personal relationship outside football.

He said he told Bhembe that if he had any challenges elsewhere, he could come to Highlanders and Bhembe approached him to say he had challenges where he was and wanted to join Highlanders.

Kgomongwe said he knew Bhembe when he was with Swallows and Mbombela and from his track record, he knew that he was one official they could rely on.

“I said I will give him an opportunity like I did with Thamsanqa Sangweni who thanked me for the opportunity I gave him.”
