MBABANE – He is a happy man.

Eswatini international and TS Galaxy player Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst has revealed his excitement at the news that Owen Da Gama is their new coach.

The former Bafana Bafana coach signed a three-year deal with the ‘Rockets’ on Monday after they fired Dan ‘Dan Dance’ Malesela, who has since gone back to Chippa United. “Owen is a big coach with a rich history. We are all excited to work with him,” the former AS Vita player said briefly.

Interestingly, when interviewed by South Africa’s KickOff.com, Da Gama made it clear that he will give all the players a fair chance. This will be good news for Badenhorst and his fellow countryman Justice Figuareido, who is also in the books of TS Galaxy.

“I think it’s important to give all the players a fair chance. Give them a fair opportunity, assess them, but nobody is going to be sort of released you know, some players might need a little bit more time for us to get them right.

The former Orlando Pirates mentor said the Rockets had talented players and he will take a closer look at everyone in the current squad before adding new talent in the upcoming transfer window.

“But the talent is there. It’s just a matter of getting them ready for the PSL. And if we need one or two players to come in and help us, we will sit as a technical team and we will recommend to our chairman Tim Sukazi, and he will make the final decision.”

When asked by KickOff about his targets, he said he wanted to help the team retain its elite league status. “So for us it’s just being in the PSL. It’s a new team in the PSL, and we’ve just got to find our feet in the PSL, and be a good, competitive team in the PSL. No top eight, no top four and all those stories. And then from next season we can start making targets you know.”

TS Galaxy are currently perched on the 14th spot with eight points after 10 games. They have only managed to win once under the guidance of former coach Malesela. Last Saturday, they suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of SuperSport United.

Their next game is against Chippa United on Saturday and kickoff time is 3:30pm at Mbombela Stadium.
