MBABANE – There is uncertainty over ‘Week 3’ games of the MTN Premier League this forthcoming weekend.

If the games clash with the Incwala day, they will be postponed to a later date. The league was set to enter its ‘Week 3’ fixtures with six games billed for Saturday and two games for a double-header on Sunday. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Mark Carmichael clarified that they would wait for the date of the main Incwala Ceremony and if it clashed with the games, they would have to postpone the matches. He said the Incwala Ceremony was a big day in the country and it needed to be respected.

Issues

“History speaks for itself when it comes to the issues of the big day in the country. Once we know the date for the main day, then we will make a decision that will be good for everyone and that is to cancel the matches,” he said. A majority of teams have already started their preparations after the two-week break. The MTN Premier League resumed on December 12 under strict COVID-19 regulations. Defending champions Young Buffaloes are expected to host Royal Leopard on Saturday before their departure on Sunday for the CAF Champions League second leg preliminary round against DR Congo’s AS Vita. Carmichael, who is also the Chairman of Denver Sundowns, who are the current log leaders, urged teams to be more careful when it comes to the safety precautions of COVID-19. He said it was important that everyone kept safe and teams adhered to the regulations.

Accountability

“This is the time everyone has to be accountable when it comes to the environment we are currently in. Every team must make sure that they comply with the COVID-19 protocols and if that is not happening, then we are endangering everyone,” he said. The ‘Week 3’ fixture will see Mbabane Highlanders playing newly-promoted side, Tinyosi FC with Manzini Wanderers visiting Mhlume Peacemakers at Mhlume Stadium on Saturday. Mbabane Swallows will be hosting Milling Hot Spurs at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium, kickoff 4pm while Green Mamba will play Tambankulu Callies earlier at 1:30pm.
