MBABANE – They are the champions of the inaugural BITCOIN Vault Pool Knockout Tournament – E3 000 richer.

These are Sandile Bee Dlamini and Zwakele Simelane.

The duo emerged the winners of the tournament that started early last month and sponsored to the tune of E10 000 and had about 54 teams that were grouped and played in a round-robin format, the top two moving on to knockout stage.

Dlamini and Simelane were among those who played to the end alongside their rivals, youngsters Nkhosikhona Vilakati and Khanyokuhle Simelane.

The latter ply their trade for REPS Pool Club under the Dixie’s Pool League in Manzini.

They were ambushed 9-5 by their senior and more experienced opponents who pocketed the E3 000 grand prize while the runners-up took E2 000 and silver medals.

However, the official prize presentation is next Friday afternoon at Express Carwash.

Meanwhile, the game itself was not a walkover there were many fouls from the younger team that cost them the match.

The first frame was a stalemate forced by the younger team and it did not count but they went on to win the second frame and led 1-0. It was soon 1-all before Khanyokuhle committed a costly foul which resulted to the rivals finishing them off to lead 2-1.

It was soon 2-all and then 3-2, the younger team on the lead but their seniors came back to make 3-3, 4-3 and stretched their lead to 5-3 before they went on the break.

After the break, the seniors continued where they had left off but at 6-3, the boys fought back to win two more frames but the final score was 9-5. As if to show that this was not their day, the rivals did not have to sink the black to win but it was Khanyokuhle who got his shot wrong and unfortunately potted the black to award the championship to the senior team.

Below is the two finalist teams’ record from the semi-finals to the final.
