MBABANE – Hub side, Manzini Wanderers have solicited an over E2 million kit sponsor from South African brand, Laurus Sport.

This means Wanderers’ kits and off-field merchandise will soon be marked with the capital L on the right side of the chest which stands for Laurus. The technical sponsor, to provide them with playing kits and off-field merchandise, is said to have agreed to sponsor the club for the next five years. A bit of information sourced from the net yesterday, is that Laurus is a football brand looking to cater for the South African football market in both on and off-field apparel.

Proudly

“We understand the game, we understand the club and we understand the players. All products are proudly made in the heart of the clothing manufacturing district in Cape Town, South Africa, the birthplace and home of Laurus Sport. Cape Town was once a hub for clothing manufacturing, and the talent in this industry still remains,” reads an excerpt from their advertisement. Furthermore, Laurus pitches itself as a company that offers ‘a high-quality product of international standards mostly produced locally; the ability to customise the product to a club’s need; and continuity for a three to five year period’. Impeccable sources within the club’s top brass confirmed the latest news.

“Wait and see. This time we mean business and our kit is one of the things we prioritise on as that’s our main branding,” said one of the sources. Another said that the new director was coming in with a number of new innovations, which were yet to be unearthed and some reported to their supporters soon. The club’s recently appointed PRO, Mlungisi Ndzinisa, had also declared they had got a good technical sponsor deal but without details. This was on national radio. Called again about Laurus, Ndzinisa said what was certain was the fact that ‘Manzini Wanderers would soon be unveiling its new kit and merchandise to include everything even replicas’ courtesy of an unnamed technical sponsor.

Expecting

“I cannot reveal the name, but yes, we are expecting to receive our first batch next week (this week) and only then will it be known who the sponsors are,” he said. Pressed further about Laurus, he preferred not to deny nor confirm, but insisted that they would soon make it public. Other sides with technical sponsors are Moneni Pirates (UMBRO South Africa) and Denver Sundowns (Kappa) among very few which include Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows, despite that they use no fancied brands in the sporting world but business-inspired kits which are affordable to anyone.
