The five-member team of experienced golfers from Manzini Club, comprising of the team’s chairperson, John Mngomezulu, Patson Dlamini, Wakie Lawrence, Eerfaan Dada and veteran golfer Richard Dlamini nailed an unsurpassed score of 455 points, taking home E3 000 in cash prizes.

Challenging their score were their Hub brothers, Mashayinkonjane which finished on a collective score of 433 points. This emanated during the final round of the league staged on Wednesday at the up-class Royal Swazi Spa. The prize giving ceremony was held in a glamorous event later that evening at the Royal Swazi Spa Convention Centre. There were 40 teams which participated in this league that was proudly sponsored to the tune of E180 000 earlier this year before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upon the return of the league, following the relaxation of the lockdown restrictions, the returning champions promised to win this tournament in honour of their late Director Manyatsi Nhleko of Manyatsi Nhleko Holdings and they lived up to their promise.

The team’s chairperson said their goal was to uphold the late director’s legacy by winning the league and they were excited to have honoured him with another hard-earned victory.

“We dedicate this victory to our late Director David Manyatsi. As a team, we strive for excellence in everything we do and we worked hard to make sure that we make him proud. Thank you once again to our sponsor, ESRIC, for making it possible for golfers to play despite the challenges imposed by COVID-19. ‘‘This is a record breaking achievement and we plan to do the same in the next edition,’ said Mngomezulu.

One of the team members, Wakie Lawrence said the secrete to their winning strategy was unity.

together

“Playing together and being together everywhere we go is our winning secret. We have maintained the same squad and we are more than just teammates, but brothers. This is the culture we are cultivating at Manzini Club, unity as family,” said Lawrence.

On behalf of Manyatsi Nhleko holdings, the company’s project manager, Mcebo Maziya, applauded the team for their dedication and commitment that saw them win the tournament for the fourth time.

“As a company, we are proud of our golfers. They are true champions and for one to become a champion, they need to compete with champions. We appreciate what they have given us and for marketing the brand. Being here today shows that we support them,” said Maziya.
