MANZINI – One would think playing at Mavuso Sports Centre has a psychological effect on Sihlangu because chances of winning are next to zero.

The national team has failed to record a win since 2018 at Mavuso Sports Centre, where they hosted their 12th official match on Monday, playing to a goalless draw against Congo Brazzaville in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifier.

This past Monday, Dominic Kunene’s side should have handed emaSwati that very important win after numerous months of drought in as far as getting a positive result is concerned for the local boys. Four great chances were missed by the local outfit with TS Galaxy’s Felix Badenhorst missing the first chance where his header was parried by Congo Brazzaville’s goalie. Young Buffaloes trio Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze, Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba and Wandile ‘Skosh’ Shabangu also missed glorious chances.

‘Skosh’, who came on as a substitute, should have scored when his well taken shot rattled the upright, 12 minutes before time. He might have only had two games in charge as the head coach of the national team but Kunene needs to quickly adapt and get a win for the nation before the people lose hope in his leadership capabilities. Sihlangu have two games remaining in the AFCON Qualifiers, one which is with Senegal away, and at least one win will be convincing that he is indeed the right man for the job despite that Sihlangu has already crashed out of the AFCON finals to be staged in Cameroon.
