MANZINI – Despite that it would count for nothing, Sihlangu Coach Dominic Kunene was impressed with the team’s showing in the goalless draw against Congo Brazzaville yesterday.

Sihlangu has crashed out of 2021 AFCON Qualifiers and will not be qualifying for finals in Cameroon as they are at the bottom of the log in Group I of the qualifiers with a single point.

Congo is second with seven points and Guinea Bissau is third with three points while Senegal has already booked their place in the tournament in Cameroon next year.

Plan

Kunene said the players executed his plan for the game well as they wanted to have a lot of players behind the ball to be able to defend in numbers.

“I was impressed with the showing by the team and they played according to the plan. It is unfortunate that we created a number of scoring chances but failed to convert. I was happy with the performance and the players worked hard. It was important that we do not lose at home,” he said.

build

Kunene said he would now build from this team as there were still two games to play in the qualifiers with Senegal away and Guinea Bissau here at home. Both matches would be played next year.

Meanwhile, Congo Brazzaville coach Valdo Candido said he was very aware that playing Eswatini at home was never going to be easy.

“It is crucial that we take the point back home and it is still not over for us as we are still in the race for qualifying. It was not easy to play here and they gave us a tough time but we are happy that we held on and are going home with a point,” he said.
