MBABANE – Perhaps the confusion on EswatiniBank Cup prizes will soon be a thing of the past.

This is if the words of Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu are anything to go by.

According to the CEO, as this tournament is a tripartite enterprise, all relevant parties must be involved in the decision-making process.

The EswatiniBank Cup had to be stopped at the quarter-finals stage due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in March.

Three entities were involved in the establishment of the CAF Confederation Cup ticket, carrying knockout tournament being the EFA, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) and the sponsor, EswatiniBank.

Mngomezulu said as the EswatiniBank Cup was a tripartite initiative, the involved parties must engage and the public will be informed on the decision and, therefore, there was no confusion surrounding the issue of prizes.

concerned

“The sponsor was right to say no entity came to make a statement on their own. What will happen is that there will be a joint statement issues on what will happen in as far as this tournament is concerned,” said Mngomezulu.

He added that they will have to wait for correspondence from the other involved parties as it was a tripartite and there was no one entity that could address the issue without the knowledge of the others.

Asked to give clarity on circulating reports that the sponsor wants the competition to play to the end, otherwise they will not be giving out prizes, the CEO said the football authorities long addressed the issue through a press conference where a press release was issued.

discussed

“That was when football authorities handed out circulars on competitions and the position still stands, which will not be discussed again,” he said.

Meanwhile, EswatiniBank’s Lindiwe Shongwe had highlighted last week that they felt it was best if the EFA responded on the matter first since it was a tripartite competition.

While prizes of the MTN Premier League were distributed to the teams as per rules and regulations of the competition, it is still unclear as to what will happen to those of the EswatiniBank Cup, which could not progress beyond the quarter-finals.

proposal

On another note, the EFA has so far made it clear that the tournament has been cancelled, meaning that the quarter-finals will not be completed despite that a proposal to have them concluded early next year was tabled and discussed in an executive level.

PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael had also made it clear that they were also in the dark. He said they were a new executive committee and were still working around putting some issues into perspective.
