WORLD NO.239 IN ACERS TENNIS OPEN TOURNEY

LOBAMBA – The Acers Tennis Open attracted not only Africa’s best players but players who are highly ranked in the world.

Benjamin Lock, 27, from Zimbabwe is currently ranked 239 as of September 14, 2020. His highest ranking in the world was 175 on November 5, 2018. The tournament has not only attracted Lock but other top players from South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique.

 The tournament which started yesterday at the SBS Tennis Court in Lobamba saw Lock play with local and fast improving player Hayden Loffler in the opening game of the Acers Tennis Open tournament. He was leading 2-0 before the rain washed away the game.

Other matches that played before the rain washed away some of the fixtures was that of Mozambican’s Hercilio Seda who beat Malawi’s Michael Tofts (6:0), (6:1). South Africa’s Thabo Ncube also managed a bright start when he beat Eswatini’s Santa Sorokhaibam 6:0, 6:0.

Mozambique’s Jossefa Simao got the better of Eswatini’s Siyabonga Motsamai winning 6:3, 6:1. Mozambican Jaime Sigauque won 6:1, 6:1 against Eswatini’s Sibusiso Dlamini. In total, there were 22 male players and 14 female players.  

In the females category which was playing at the University of Eswatini(UNESWA) Tennis Courts,Takhona Khumalo managed to get a good start when she beat Mphumela Simelane 6;3, 6:2 while  Eswatini’s Sakhizwe Malindzisa went down to South Africa’s  Nicole Viltoen. It was not a walk in the park though as the latter had to sweat it out winning 6:4, 6:3.

The tournament which is played in a knock out will continue today and it is expected to end tomorrow.
