EZULWINI – He is worth over E1 million in the Transfermarkt ratings currently and looks set to walk into a team that is prepared to spend over his worth on various big signings ahead of the 2020/21 domestic season.

That is former Mbabane Swallows and South Africa’s Polokwane City gifted midfielder Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze, who has agreed terms with ambitious Mbabane Highlanders. During a press briefing yesterday which had initially been expected to be his unveiling at the black and white outfit’s clubhouse and offices at Goje Township, it was confirmed that Pupu would be joining his brother Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze, who was unveiled on Thursday after his resignation from Group Desportivo of Mozambique. Highlanders are splashing the cash without a doubt and Pupu is the latest marquee signing they have almost captured after agreeing terms in principle with the team’s South African Director, Chief Ally Kgomongwe.

Anticipated

Should the Eswatini international sign next Monday or Tuesday, he will only add to an already huge bill as the club has just reunited with his elder brother Papi for a signing-on fee of E40 000 and E15 000 monthly salary for a year. Pupu successfully negotiated a E100 000 signing-on fee, same amount received by his former Swallows and Mbombela United teammate, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who will be receiving a said E11 000 salary monthly for two years. According to an impeccable source, Pupu had initially tabled E120 000 for his signature but Kgomongwe countered it and in the end they settled for 100 000. The salary offered and agreed on was E15 000 for two years. However, nothing has been signed yet but Pupu confirmed all was agreed excluding the signing.

Confirm

“I can confirm that what the chairman is saying is true, I’ve agreed to join Highlanders and I wouldn’t be here if they hadn’t signed my brother. We’ve agreed with Kgomongwe to put pen to paper next week once we hear a potential deal in SA. “If anything, I’ll go to training at Highlanders if it starts on Monday as I’ve agreed terms,” he said. Kgomongwe explained that they were hoping to unveil Pupu yesterday but the agreement was that he could only sign next week.
