MBABANE – It’s a massive clear-out campaign.

Manzini Wanderers have reportedly put about 11 players on transfer as they look at boosting the team with new blood ahead of the new season.

It has been gathered that these players have been released to create room for new talent. The players said to be leaving include expatriates in the likes of Johnson Mensah and Chaffiou Abbadou.

Reports are to the effect that the players, the expatriates in particular, are unhappy over owed salaries and want clearances to search greener pastures.

According to sources, the technical team led by Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe has approved the transfer of the players which was performance based.

“The list of the players who are set to leave the team has already been compiled. A total of 11 players were put on transfer. However, as the list is not final and there are still deliberations on involved parties, five of the players may be staying as they had been removed from those that will be leaving following special considerations,” confided a source.

A final decision to inform the players, despite that most of those that are leaving are already aware of the matter, has not been yet made according to sources. This means that even the players remained speculative until an official announcement is made by management on who is leaving and who will remain behind with the maroon and while outfit.

The Chairman of the Council of Elders, Joe Nkumane did not deny the news when drawn for comment. However, Nkumane said the matter was handled internally and the public will be informed on the latest developments in due course.

“We will hold a press conference most likely early this coming week. There are many issues which need to be clarified to supporters and the public,” said Nkumane.

Meanwhile, other players set to be leaving include Jose Machado who joined Wanderers two seasons ago from Bad Boys, goalie Sandile ‘Onyango’ Dlamini who signed from Mbabane Citizens at the start of the cancelled season and Nigeria-born shot-stopper Innocent Adja who also signed from Mhlume Peacemakers at the start of the cancelled season.

Meanwhile, coach Hlophe could not be immediately drawn for comment as his mobile phone rang unanswered when called. None of the affected players were willing to comment pending an official confirmation of the transfer list by the team’s authorities. This comes hardly days after it was confirmed that the team’s management committee (MC) led by Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli had also been disbanded.
