EZULWINI – It took a good offer for Mbabane Highlanders to win back strong central midfielder Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze into their camp.

Unveiled on Thursday afternoon at the team’s clubhouse and offices at Goje Township by director Chief Ally Kgomongwe, Sikhondze made it known he was happy to be back with Inkunz’emnyama. Before his unveiling, he was present the previous day when his former Mbabane Swallows teammate Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa was unveiled due to unfinished contractual business with Mozambique’s Group Desportivo Maputo FC where he had been based.

“I still have an option to renew for a year according to the current contract but the team’s boss offered me three years but, I believe it’s best to be home right now until the COVID-19 situation improves. We did not play all season in Mozambique due to the pandemic.

“Highlanders are a team I’ve played for before and their offer is just about matching the Mozambique one,” he explained while adding that he had a good understanding with the Mozambique team director and could still return in the near future. Papi then resigned from the neighbouring country’s giants to re-join Highlanders, the club he left to join rivals Mbabane Swallows a few seasons ago before going to Desportivo. Also coming with Sikhondze was his former coach and trainer at Swallows, Siyabonga Bhembe. a
