MBABANE – He is now flying with the birds.

Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows yesterday ended weeks of speculation by unveiling Christopher Ennin as their new mentor. He has signed a two-year contract with the red and white glamour giants.

The brief ceremony, held at the club’s offices in Mbabane and attended by a number of the team’s top officials, saw the Ghanaian coach being confirmed as the replacement for departed coach Honour Janza, who resigned from the post some weeks ago. This was after the highly-qualified Zambian coach accepted an offer to take up the position of technical director (TD) at NAPSA Stars in his home country.

Ennin held the same position at Denver Sundowns but his contract was not renewed before the Swallows’ offer came up. As stated by Swallows’ Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Board of Governors (BoGs) member Andreas Lukhele when confirming the appointment of Ennin on behalf of club President Archbishop Bheki Lukhele, the incoming coach has rich coaching background.

Lukhele told journalists that this was one of the factors that convinced them that Ennin was the right man for the job. The Swallows’ official was, however, quick to make it clear that they expect nothing but good results from the coach. “Let me apologise for the absence of the club president; he is a committed man and was held up elsewhere. He has, however, blessed the appointment of Ennin after being impressed with his coaching credentials. The new coach is most welcome at Mbabane Swallows and we can assure him of our undivided support,” Lukhele said.

Confident

The Mbabane giants revealed that throughout the recruitment process, Ennin demonstrated that, among other things, he fully understood the Swallows football philosophy and culture, making the club confident that he would serve with great technical prowess. “Congratulations to the coach for joining a winning team that is respected across the length and breadth of the African continent. He has already been given a mandate to ensure that Swallows goes to CAF competitions and this starts with winning trophies in the country,” added Swallows’ Marketing and Communications Manager Mancoba Mabuza in a statement.

Speaking afterwards, Ennin admitted that it was a huge privilege for him to join a big club like Swallows and declared confidently that he was ready for the challenge. “I am aware that Swallows is a winning team with ambitions to conquer Africa. I am here to help it realise this dream,” the clearly confident coach said.

On the same vein, Mabuza said they were not done yet in as far as strengthening the team was concerned, promising their stakeholders that the club would be making few other signings.
