WAY INN RISE TO STOP CORRECTIONAL
MALKERNS – Who will take the MRPA/Dixie’s International Pool League title home in the exciting and well-sponsored third edition?
MRPA stands for Manzini Regional Pool Association. Their league is sponsored to the tune of E40 000 but they broke it down to E30 000 for the league and reserved E10 000 for their knockout.
The league has been growing since its first edition which was won by Way Inn before they finished second last season.
Debutants back then, Manzini Pool Club (MPC) won it on final match-day. However, this time around the competition has toughened up with more teams joining the league, meaning an increase from 10 to 15 now.
joining
This has seen all government security forces joining the sport under Manzini and they have added value and competition when not long ago Way Inn would have it easy even in other tournaments.
Last Sunday, Way Inn and Correctional faced off at Malkerns Game room.
It was a big match between two giants with renowned names in the country when it comes to the table mind game.
Correctional Services are led by Flag Nxumalo, a former national team star and certainly one who has inspired most in the sport, ex-Way Inn star Wandile ‘Bin Laden’ Mbingo and Andile Malambe while Way Inn have the most stars including Nathi Hleta, Jairus Mhlanga and the on fire match winner on the day, Zweli ‘Siziba’ Dlamini who has learnt from Nxumalo.
runaway
Tough it was, but the final score would suggest otherwise! Way Inn won 13-9 to stop the Correctional side who were fast becoming runaway leaders at the top as they went to this match leading their forces’ rivals, Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) by four points.
However, they only managed a point from this match.
Correctional started brightly and took the lead in the initial stages to the point that when the break period was given by match officials, Nxumalo and his team were 6-4 up.
It was in the last half that Way Inn came back stronger – they needed to win the match after being shocked twice by REPS and France in their previous matches.
Despite the negative result for Correctional Services, they retained the top spot but REPS edged closer after their win over France on the same day at Matsapha Police Academy. Correctional now lead by a mere two points while Way Inn moved one place up to eighth but have a game in hand and eight points behind the leaders.
