MBABANE – His prayers were answered.

That was the reaction of Mbabane Swallows’ President Archbishop Bheki Lukhele when asked about the election of the new Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Committee last week Saturday at the Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini. Denver Sundowns’ Chairman Mark Carmichael won the chairmanship ahead of incumbent Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula. Lukhele minced no words in confessing that the results of the PLE elections were what he was wishing for before the big meeting.

“I actually had a chat with our Board of Governors member about the elections and the results were what I was hoping for. I am very happy with the way the elections went and I believe the results are good for premier league football. They actually favoured me because the elected people are known in local football,” Lukhele said.

He said the time had come for the old executive committee led by Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula to be given a rest.

“If I had the chance to vote myself, I would have elected the same people because they have what it takes to meet people’s expectations. Let us all give them the support they need so that we make their work easier,” the Swallows’ president appealed. Carmichael ‘s election has generally received a stamp of approval from a number of local football administrators and Lukhele’s support will come as huge motivation for the new executive committee as they continue with their efforts to transform the organisation. The Sundowns’ boss is leading a committee consisting of Charles Matsebula (Black Swallows), Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe (Vovovo FC), Victor Rodriguez (Malanti Chiefs), Rudolph Matsenjwa (Tambuti FC) while co-opted members are Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo (Peacemakers) and Mashumi Shongwe (Rangers).
