MBABANE – The revamped Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) ship is already sailing.

The organisation, through votes by the 26 Board of Governors (BoGs) last Saturday elected a new executive committee led by Denver Sundowns’ boss Mark Carmichael. This committee replaced the one which was led by Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula.

Members of the new executive committee include Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe (Vovovo FC), Charles Matsebula (Black Swallows), Rudolph Matsenjwa (Tambuti FC) and Victor Rodriguez (Malanti Chiefs).

The two co-opted members are Mhlume Peacemakers’ Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo and Mashumi Shongwe of Rangers.

approach

Carmichael told this publication yesterday that after their meeting on Monday, the organisation’s road map was embraced and a fresh approach was now underway.

“We trust that all operations and departments within the organisation will function normally in this transition phase. Yesterday (Wednesday) we had an official handover from our former chairman (Touch) accompanied by Mr Sicelo Mkhonta. We are proud to announce that we have co-opted two members, who after great consideration from a wide pool of able administrators, were chosen as the most ideal in line with our vision,” he said.

Carmichael said they had every confidence that the two members would add value in the immediate challenges the organisation would be faced with when football returns under the COVID-19 era.

congratulating

“in a space of four days since we assumed office, we have received over 2 000 calls from people congratulating my executive. The welcome response is overwhelming and on behalf of my executive committee, I would like to thank everyone who has taken his time to congratulate us. We really appreciate all the support,” the soft-spoken Carmichael said.

Meanwhile, the PLE boss passed the organisation’s condolences to the family of Manzini Wanderers’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat Mahlalela who passed away recently after losing his battle with an undisclosed illness in Johannesburg, South Africa. He will be laid to rest on Sunday in the Hhohho region, as announced by his family.

toughest

“We are at a loss for words, this is a huge loss to football. Just recently we lost another great football person and this is really the toughest and most dark year of our sporting era. Mahlalela’s son is part of our juniors, so we have been touched. We pray to God to give his family, wife and children strength and comfort during this sad time. We apologise for not releasing a statement earlier as we were disturbed by the events of the week coming from the elections which has been hectic,” he lamented.
