Mbabane – He needs no introduction as he has been climbing the ladder over the years. 

He is the country’s reigning Oyama Kyokushinkaikan Karate national champion in the heavyweight division for over a decade now. 

That is former Mr Eswatini title winner Linda Dlamini. He has been on the plane to overseas numerous times thanks to Karate. 

He recently finished in the top eight of the Oyama World Cup and was due to go again this year but COVID-19 stalled all that. Learn more from him;

1. In a few words, who is Linda Dlamini and where are you from?

*Linda Dlamini is a young humble,  conscience young man born and raised in the Shiselweni Region.

2. Share your karate background to the present time briefly.

*I started doing karate in 1999, eventually being competitive in 2002 and from there onwards haven’t looked an inch back.

3.What has karate as your sport done for you that you can say is a lifetime treasure?

*Karate has  helped me in so many ways but significantly it taught me that in life, whatever obstacle that comes my way can be resolved in one way or the other. I’m also travelling the world representing my country.

4. Your thought about education and sporting talent? 

*It can be a springboard to someone less equipped or financially unstable in such a way that it can open up chances of scholarship and many opportunities.

5. How do you keep fit during the lockdown as karate remains banned?

*It can be a springboard to someone whos less equipped or financially unstable in such a way that it can open up chances of scholarship and more.

6. How much do you miss competition?

* I obviously miss competition as the reigning champion here. I mostly miss competition especially abroad.

7. Your message to the young and upcoming athlete?

*Whatever you believe in, it is possible don’t give up. Just remember living is about proving oneself until the end.
