MBABANE – The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, has assured the African continent that they will ensure that the 2020/21 CAF competition runs smoothly despite the spread of the coronavirus.

The president made these remarks in the CAF September newsletter yesterday.

“Now is time for recovery at all levels. Some countries are already doing it, with competitions taking place under strict sanitary arrangements. At CAF, we are starting an important reflection on the resumption of our competitions. Finish the old season and start the next one with the continuation of various qualifying matches in all categories,” said Ahmad.

He highlighted that the next meeting of the Exco will finalise these various deadlines.

The meeting was scheduled for last night.

“We are already looking forward to this long-awaited and hoped-for recovery which will restore everyone’s morale, motivation and hope to succeed, as it should. The long weeks of procrastination, waiting without knowing what tomorrow will bring, the long months of postponements, delays, even suspension of all international trips, resulting therefore in an inability to set up any official meetings, have heavily penalised us,” he added.

“Seven months in all without competitions and events, you know it dear friends that has never happened since the creation of the Confederation of African Football in 1957. We will have to learn lessons from history, for the unique experience and to be prepared for the future to anticipate or prevent such an exceptional situation,” he said.

“I would like to point out here the perfect cohesion in the functioning of our services, and the excellent spirit that has endured between the clubs, the national associations, the zones and even the young players who are always more impatient than everyone else,” he said.

He pointed that CAF went through this terrible health hurricane with seriousness and responsibility.
