NOMVUYO MTN MASTERS’ BEST LADY GOLFER

MBABANE – Golfer Nomvuyo Dludlu is fast becoming a household name in the male-dominated sport, golf.

From the 56 golfers that participated in the MTN Monthly Masters on Saturday, she was the only female golfer that took part. Often, Dludlu takes part in most of the Eswatini tournaments and mostly never misses tournaments at the Mbabane Golf Club. She doesn’t add numbers but competes with the male counterparts. This past week, she carded a score of 34 points during the April edition of the monthly MTN-sponsored tournament. She was named the best female golfer on the day and she also walked away with the longest drive under the female category.

The overall winner of the tournament was 13-year-old and Grade VII learner at Annadale Primary school, Sinethemba Mhlanga. He became the youngest ever MTN Champion in the history of the tournament.

He beat a strong field of over 50 golfers by placing an excellent score of 45 points. Sibusiso Ndzabandzaba was the runner-up on a good score of 39 points and was closely followed by Nicholas Vilakati on 38 points who won on a countback, beating Sandile Chonco and Ncamiso Ntshalintshali.

The Mbabane Golf Club Captain, Kenneth Nkambule, thanked his committee for a very well-run tournament. He also thanked the golfers, particularly for their commitment in adhering to the COVID-19 safety regulations put in place by the club.

The field was split into two groups with one teeing off as early as 7:30am and the other at 11am. This strategy worked well as social distancing was observed and there were only four golfers in the clubhouse at a given time. Golfers had to go to the clubhouse to claim their prizes as prize-giving was suspended by the club committee to avoid what can be construed as social gathering. The captain also announced that next weekend the club will host the May edition of the ESRIC Mug.
