MBABANE – The race is on for the hot Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairmanship seat in this year’s forthcoming annual general meeting (AGM).

The electoral AGM comes every four years and the outgoing Chairman is Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula, who was nominated early on by some of the 26 member clubs to retain his position.
Interestingly, his colleagues in the PLE Executive Committee, Sicelo Mkhonta and Mark Carmichael have also been nominated for same seat. The deadline was Friday at midnight but most teams submitted before close of business with just a minority making it before the midnight through email. Impeccable sources have claimed that a majority of the teams have nominated Magagula for another run as leader of the organisation.

Deferred

The elections had been scheduled to take place on August 8 but all assemblies were deferred by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), which will decide on the suspended season next month based on the COVID-19 assessment report. “Because as clubs or BoGs we discuss things like this one, I can say that the general feeling is that we shouldn’t change chairmanship but boost his executive committee by mixing new blood with experience,” said one source.

The source referred another source for more information as they said even by close of business yesterday, there was rumour mongering to the effect that slightly more or less than 20 teams stood by Magagula but shifted the executive committee in one way or the other. “The elections are yet to take place so I don’t know but clubs have made their submissions and I know we went for him too and I heard that about 20 clubs nominated him while Tsetla leads the nominees of the executive committee positions among new names,” said the source.
It was also established that First Division League club, Vovovo FC, nominated Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows Chairman Charles Matsebula for chairmanship while the latter nominated the former’s director and businessman Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe for a position in the executive committee.
