MBABANE – The long arm of the law will definitely take its course.

This was a direct quote made by Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council’s (ESRC) Media Officer Dumsani Ntiwane in light of the prevailing irresponsible hosting of soccer games despite government’s warning in light of the wide spreading COVID-19. Ntiwane said this following two reported incidences where a group of people were spotted playing soccer games at Mahebedla Sports Ground near Mbuluzi in Mbabane last Saturday and again in an open ground near Mbabane Youth Centre on Friday.

Official

In both incidences, there were no referees in sight to imply that the games were official events and neither did they observe the social distancing rule as spectators were seen cheering their teams while closely seated next to each other. Ntiwane viewed this act as a sign of disrespect and irresponsibility, which did not only place lives at risk of contracting the virus that has killed thousands of people globally, but also displayed intentional defiance of the law. “Football games are still suspended and people should stop playing soccer in their communities because they will get arrested and it will hurt,” warned Ntiwane. Ntiwane further encouraged parents to be watchful of their children’s engagement and movement so that they avoid the temptation of partaking in illegal activities or gatherings.
