NEVER LET SAME SNAKE BITE YOU TWICE

The hot topic of discussion in the football fraternity these days has been the nominations and proposals from the 26 Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) members ahead of their elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) expected to be held in the next coming weeks.

The members were given Friday as the deadline to comply with this constitutional requirement and the reports gathered, though not official, seem to suggest that all went well. If that is the case, then the PLE members are worthy of praise, it is always positive when you see football people respecting the football constitution governing their operations. History has, however, taught some of us that when it is time for elections, football administrators, like politicians are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge even where there is no river. The nomination process is now done and dusted even though the official names of the candidates are yet to be released by the PLE office. Some familiar names are being mentioned as among those included in the nomination forms by the members and there are a few surprises of course, which is expected.

This is just the first phase of this election process and as PLE members wait for the date of this much-anticipated meeting, I have few words of advice for them. They should know that the votes they are carrying will shape the future of Premier League football for the next four years after the AGM. This means they cannot afford to repeat past mistakes.

Common good

The future we create in local football will be painted in the brush strokes of decisions we make each and every day as we consider the priority of our personal good over the common good of the game. I subscribe to the notion that if you are filled with pride as a leader, then you will have no room for wisdom. The position of PLE Chairman, currently held by Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula, is the most crucial for that organisation and whoever takes it should have the right credentials, it should not be about names. In life generally, if you do the same thing, think the same thoughts, then you are curetting your own future. If you want to see change in everything that you do, be like a wild flower by allowing your seeds to grow in the most magnificent ways...it is not forced, it just is.

The PLE members should not expect great things in Premier League football if they have small dreams. Your mind is a powerful thing, when you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change. Likewise, the only thing that will change the face of Premier League football going forward is for the members to apply positive thoughts when they decide on the votes.
