MBABANE – A sigh of relief for Manzini Wanderers’ Manqoba ‘Spider’ Maseko! The artistic midfielder’s results came back negative last Monday after undergoing a test for COVID-19 following suspicions that he might have contracted the virus that has already claimed the lives of 28 emaSwati.

‘Spider’ is one of the deadliest ammunitions for the hub giants in their arsenal and serves as one of the vice captains to Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya.
The lanky midfielder fell critically ill on Tuesday, July 7, night and had to be rushed to the Raleign Fitkin Memorial Hospital (RFM) after his temperature soared to over 40 degrees.
Spider was reported to have been quickly taken to the already mentioned hospital by Wanderers’ Treasurer Girlie Johnson in a bad state after showing signs of the virus which are flu-related.

Wanderers’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini sounded hopeful that the player would recover soon and disclosed that he (Spider) was currently kept in self-isolation at the clubhouse while awaiting the test results.
Drawn for comment yesterday, the player confirmed that he survived the scare after his results came back negative last Monday.

He, then appealed, not only with his teammates but all football players in the kingdom to adhere to government and health experts’ outlined prevention measures to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
“I am ok, my results came back negative last Monday, meaning that I did not have the coronavirus,” said the player.

“I can only warn football players to stay safe all the time and ensure to follow all the outlined safety precautions,” he said.
Spider added that it was imperative for football players to understand the importance of doing what was right all the time.

“They should not want to be monitored now and then but they must act responsibly for there is nothing important more than life,” he said.
Meanwhile, recently, Mbabane Highlanders’ new signee from Manchester United, Siwakhile Shongwe, also tested negative after exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus.
