MBABANE – The Khosiken Madvudvu Funeral Cover continues to spread its wings in the local football fraternity.

After some Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) and National First Division teams joined the first-of-its-kind funeral cover tailor-made for sportspeople, the Schools Sports Association, Eswatini Coaches Association and the Referees Association (RA) are also set to take up the policy. Khosiken Mdvudvu Funeral Plan is a funeral insurance plan specifically for football supporters in Eswatini underwritten by Old Mutual. It was launched on February 27 this year at Mfuleni Lifestyle. Old Mutual Alternative Channel’s Distribution Officer Elvis Dlamini confirmed yesterday that they will be incorporating the Schools Sports Association, Coaches Association and Referees Association.

“When we launched the product, we started with the premier league and national first division teams. We are now not only venturing into Super league as well but we will be incorporating schools sports, coaches and referees,” Dlamini said. Dlamini said the month of July presents an opportunity for everyone – including those who had taken up the policy – to renew for the year 2020-2021. “All those who had signed up for the year June 2019 to June 2020, have to sign up again. It is still a once-off payment of E240 per year with an additional E20 for a team of your choice. The E20 is a commitment fee for your team and benefits the team,” he added.

Confirmed

RA Secretary Mbongeni Shongwe confirmed that they were finalising logistics to take up the funeral cover policy. “We will definitely join, it’s just that we are still working on the logistics for now. We will be joining soon,” Shongwe said. KhosiKen director Kenneth Makhanya had earlier indicated that through the funeral cover they also wanted to change the team fans into supporters. “A fan can never be a supporter if there is no benefit for him. That’s what we want to help the teams achieve because in the package that we have, a team will get something yet also they will be able to have their officials, players and fans covered for any eventualities,” Makhanya added.
