EZULWINI – The 5th edition of the Ingwenyama Cup was a splendid success – it thrilled His Majesty King Mswati III no less.

The knockout tournament blending culture and football from regional to elite level, had its winners for the current season’s edition presented with their prizes at Happy Valley Hotel, Ezulwini yesterday. In his brief address in the COVID-19 cautious event, Chairman of the Ingwenyama Cup Committee Prince Hlangabeza said His Majesty King Mswati III was thrilled about the tournament’s success once again.

“We saw how the nation came together to witness the tournament games and filled the stadium during the final to watch culture and football. The King is so happy that all went well once again. He also said we also must not let down the SMVA team as sponsors of the Ingwenyama Cup who took the opportunity when he came up with the idea.

“He said the less road accidents we had, the better as that was going to ensure MVA continued to have funds for the tournament. The King is aware and happy though that road accidents statistics were showing a decrease,” Prince Hlangabeza said.
He explained that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the prize handover could not be the same as previous events.

“This is the time to be cautious. It’s the time to be hygienically cautious and the King has said that following the COVID-19 regulations shouldn’t be difficult for emaSwati as this is how the nation always lived.”

He said the King emphasised on the seriousness of the coronavirus and importance of adhering to the regulations put forth by the World Health Organisation and the country’s government to stay safe. He concluded by thanking all those who made the tournament a huge success, including the media which he said was behind filling the stadiums during matches.
