MBABANE – Red and white capital city giants Mbabane Swallows need their out-of-contract players.

This, at least, is the view of the team’s Head Coach, Honour Janza. If his words are anything to go by, Swallows must re-think the recent transfers of out-of-contract players in the likes of striker Sandile Hlatshwako, midfielders Richard McCreesh, Paito Dube, Vuzumuzi Zungu, wingers Siphamandla Dhlamini and Gudas Dlamini.

The club has given these players letters alerting them that their contracts were over and would not be renewed. They were given the last salary in the club’s books last month.
Swallows’ Zambian mentor, Janza was asked about this and also the arrival of Vovovo FC midfielder, Leon Manyisa as unveiled on Tuesday.

“It’s a good move to have Leon Manyisa in our team and I believe he is going to add value like any other good players that we have at Swallows.
“On the release of players, it’s only the contracts that have run out and the executive is working around that. I believe the season 2019/20 has not ended yet hence no player can be released,” Janza responded soon after Manyisa’s unveiling.

He was specifically asked if this meant he had no contribution or influence to incoming and outgoing players. Given his response to the non-renewal of contracts of some of the out-of-contract players, he was also asked if this could mean anything about his future.

“Even if I return or not, I am the one recommending recruit of new players,” he said while also acknowledging that there was no permanent position in football. These questions were asked based on the facts that Swallows are still challenging for the MTN Premier League title. They are also in the quarter-finals of the EswatiniBank Cup. Both tournaments have been suspended since March due to COVID-19 but the current position is that they will resume from they were when suspension was effected. Swallows are second in the league behind leaders, Young Buffaloes.

They are separated by eight points with eight games remaining. With all the players released, only one has come in yet and Janza still has competition before him and the chance to win something in just the first year of his three-year contract. Janza, according to the CAF website, was appointed as CAF Elite Local Instructor for a period of two-years not long ago.

Swallows Marketing and Communications Manager Mancoba Mabuza’s response was not immediately available despite efforts to solicit his comment yesterday. Mabuza had earlier stated that any issues regarding player’s contracts cannot be discussed in the media and the club will release a statement if the need arises.
