MBABANE – A total of 169 teams equally shared E118 300, with each team pocketing E700.

The Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) has started dishing out the E300 000 COVID-19 relief fund received from the mother body, Eswatini Football Regional Association (EFRA). Recipient of the money are the close to 200 football clubs playing under the auspices of the regional association as well as competition committee members and match officials.

According to LRFA Secretary General Sicelo Nene, who also confirmed the latest development, each of the 169 clubs would be receiving a sum of E700 while 49 Competition Committee members would be getting E500 each. Referees were also not left out as some received E500 while others got E300 each. For administration expenses, the association got E99 700. Nene emphasised that they decided to distribute cash so that the teams would cater for their needs at the height of the pandemic.

“Actually, instead of buying items, we have decided to distribute cash to all the recipients because we may never know their needs. And we are hoping that everyone is satisfied with the arrangement as we believe that the outbreak of the virus has affected all of us in one way or the other. “Nene said.
He added that the criteria employed in the distribution of the referees money depended on vulnerability, commitment and attendance of previous referee classes.

“I must say that the referees who have other jobs did not get a share of the money. We analysed their level of vulnerability due to the spread of the virus so some got E500 while others got E300,” said Nene.

It was further revealed that clubs who had a pending debt with the association would receive their full share without subtracting the owed amounted, it would be up to them if they decide to pay their debts using this fund, otherwise this fund is solely to help them cope with the COVID-19 plight.
