MBABANE – Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) affiliates will share E190 000 from the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) COVID-19 Relief grant of E300 000.

This is according to a memorandum forwarded to the teams last Friday. This means the 316 teams under the auspices of HRFA will each receive E600.
Interestingly, it has been stated in the memorandum that teams will not get the money as it will be channelled to the affiliation fee for the 2020/21 season. This has, however, provoked the fury of some teams who registered their unhappiness, though speaking on condition of anonymity.

“We do not understand why they are channelling our money to affiliation fees for next season yet the relief fund is for the current season. It does not make sense at all,” said one of the team members. When reached for comment, HRFA’s Chairman Nigel Shongwe explained that this decision was reached after concluding that the money should reflect in an audited statement from the association.

“Due to requirements of financial audit on utilisation of COVID-19 Relief Fund from all beneficiaries, the HRFA executive decided to pay affiliation fees for the 2020/21 football season,” Shongwe said. He also explained that the E40 000 allocation to the contingency would be used to cover costs of anything that might arise which would be a requirement to circumvent COVID-19 infection by members, standing committees or office.

Shongwe also urged members to adhere to regulations protracted by authorities of the Kingdom of Eswatini regarding the fight against COVID-19. He also said that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, members will be kept posted on when the annual general meeting will be held.
