MBABANE – While the Eswatini internationals are celebrating that soon they will be going back to the playing field, they still have to undergo a 14-day quarantine when they return to South Africa.

This comes after the South African Football Association (SAFA) gave all the 32 Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams the green light to resume training following approvals from South Africa’s Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize and Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa.

Mbombela United is campaigning in the GladAfrica Championships and they have the quartet of local players in Felix Badenhorst, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu and Justice Figuareido. They also have in their technical bench other locals in Siyabonga Bhembe and Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina.

Outbreak

All the players are currently in the country with coach Siyabonga Bhembe, while only Masina remained in South Africa after a lockdown was enforced in that country.
According to www.nicd.ac.za, all people entering South Africa will be required to quarantine for 14 days. Quarantine is for people who are not sick (asymptomatic) but who may have been infected with COVID-19. Travellers may complete part of the quarantine period at home after clinical assessment and testing at a designated quarantine facility.

Coach Siyabonga Bhembe said it was good news that they would be returning back to training soon.
He said for now nothing had been communicated to them by the team and they would wait for the correspondent before getting ready to go back.
“We are aware that COVID-19 comes with some changes especially in travelling and we will be ready for anything,” he said.
Bhembe said they missed football because it was part of their life.

The coronavirus lockdown is on Level 3 in South Africa but football is still suspended across the board.
These regulations entail among others that all teams need to test for COVID-19 and chronic medical conditions (as stipulated in the Football return to training protocol adopted by the SAFA Joint Liaison Committee (JLC) and results must be sent to the Compliance Officer.
Disinfection of the training venue is mandatory, so is the daily screening of COVID-19 symptoms for all those involved.
