MBABANE – The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will have access to US$2 million (E36 million) for FIFA’s Goal Projects within a four-year period.

This is according to the amended FIFA Forward Programme for the 2019-2022 cycle, under the Financial entitlements for the 211-member associations.

“A sum of US$2 000 000 over the period of the whole 2019-2022 cycle for projects tailored according to the member association’s approved contract agreed objectives and in particular relating to football infrastructure e.g pitches, technical centres, training grounds, stadiums and head quarters,” part of the statement from the FIFA website reads.

It also states that the projects may include other development areas provided that the member association has at least one stadium/pitch allowing international matches to be played, suitable association head quarters and a functioning technical centre.
The EFA has already, through FIFA’s funding for the Goal Projects, acquired Sigwaca House, built a Technical Centre at Lobamba, Nhlangano and KaLanga.

EFA Marketing and Communications Officer, Muzi Radebe, confirmed the FIFA US$2 million allocation for Goal Projects over a four-year period.

“Yes, we are aware of the funding of US$2 million for the current cycle, that is 2019 to 2022. The EFA has developed the regional technical centres in Nhlangano and KaLanga. As per the plan, two more centres are yet to be developed in Mkhuzweni and Manzini. What normally happens is that, the EFA applies for the project and FIFA finances them directly from the portion allocated for the EFA,” Radebe said.

FIFA gives each member association a sum of US$6 million (about E108 million) over the same four-year period to support operational needs and developmental projects while an additional US$1 million (about E18 million) is allocated to those member associations with an annual revenue of US$4 million (about E72 million) or less in order to support their travel and equipment needs.
