MBABANE – Eswatini international Colani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze will have to remain in self-isolation for a bit longer.

This is after the Mozambique Football Federation (FMF) yesterday officially announced the cancellation of all football activities in that country. Through a letter dated March 30, 2020, directed to the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) General Secretary Sue Destombes, the Portuguese-speaking nation informed the association of the decision to cancel all football activities. “The Mozambique Football Federation wishes to inform you that it has with immediate effect suspended all football activities in Mozambique as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 outbreak,” reads the statement by the federation’s Acting Secretary General Hilano Madeira.

Guidance

He continues to state that the FMF will continue to monitor and constantly assess the situation, get advice and guidance from government and health officials and put contingency plans in place to respond to any emerging trends to COVID-19. Meanwhile, ‘Papi’ said the Mozambican government released the statement when they played their last cup game. “They did a good thing because the population is very large here in Mozambique and therefore contamination risks are also very high,” he said. Sikhondze also disclosed that in Mozambique, it was very difficult to control the people as they were prepared to die for anything they wanted. “What I can say is that the virus is a curse and people must listen and follow orders,” he said.
The player further highlighted that the Mozambique elite league had been put on hold and teams given a month break due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Indoors

‘Papi’ added that currently he ensured that he stayed indoors as per the government’s recommendations for safety measures. “Yes, I am always indoors,” he said. This is after the player had been asked on the prevention measures he was taking personally as per thatgovernment’s safety measures recommendations.
