MBABANE – The outbreak of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) has disrupted big plans for Eswatini South Africa-based dancer Vuyiswa Zindela.

Zindela was set for her first international appearance this year in the big stage of the city of gold for a dance competition scheduled for April 25. This will no longer be the case as the competition has been postponed indefinitely by the hosts, the South African government following the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak which the World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared a global crisis.

The liSwati dancer based in that neighbouring country is pursuing her tertiary studies which include being in the school of dance. Last year in November, she and her South African partner did very well to get silverware from another international dance competition. When drawn for comment yesterday, Zindela acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic had seriously affected her dance career.

“Well, the coronavirus has also greatly affected us. With the lockdown we cannot practise so it’s a bit of a setback.  We don’t know when things will get back to normal, while at home I try to stay fit by doing some home exercises as well as eating healthy,” said the dancer. She also highlighted that the competition has been postponed, so they will have to wait and see if this pandemic will be under control. For this particular competition, Zindela disclosed that there was no prize money, and they just competed for the title and trophy.
